On 15 December 2021, as a result of cooperation between the Embassy of Georgia and SPAR company, a special corner for Georgian honey was opened in the SPAR supermarket chain located in one of Doha's largest shopping malls (Tawar Mall). Georgian honey corner will be presented in all branches of the SPAR supermarket chain in Qatar, where customers will be able to purchase high quality Georgian natural honey.
With the initiative of the Embassy of Georgia to the State of Qatar, relevant agencies of both countries approved the "Veterinary (health) certificate for the export of honey and other beekeeping products from Georgia to the State of Qatar", which facilitated the export of honey from Georgia to Qatar. Accordingly, in 2020, compared to the previous year, honey exports from Georgia to Qatar increased by 350%, and in 2021 the growth was 255% compared to the previous year.
It is noteworthy that in cooperation with the Embassy and Mercy Corps, Alliances Caucasus Program (ALCP), Georgian wild honey produced by traditional methods - jara was for the first time exported to Qatar.
Qatari leading Arabic-language newspaper - Al Raya published an interview with Ambassador of Georgia to the State of Qatar Nikoloz Revazishvili on the opening of the Georgian honey corner.
In the interview - "Qatar is becoming a potential market for Georgian honey", Ambassador talks about the traditions and history of honey production in Georgia, Georgian honey varieties and special features.
